First, the definition of some terms.
An Ideology
is defined as a system of thought that is based on an idea or set of ideas.
Ideas
are symbolic constructions of the Mind, and the Mind naturally organizes
its conceptions into a hierarchy of ideas. When such a construction becomes
a system that helps the individual to comprehend the world and to manage
one's existence in the world and that provides purpose and values, then
that system takes on the nature of being a general philosophy or ideology.
Philosophy
is the pursuit of Wisdom. Wisdom is about
the aggregation of Right ideas. And Right
ideas are those which are Accurate and Useful.
In its pursuit of Useful and Accurate ideas,
all of Philosophy can be seen as an attempt, in some way, to answer a relatively
small number of big questions, which include, but are not limited to, the
following: what is? what was our origin and will be our destination? what
is right and good? who am I? and what is our purpose? Of these big questions,
Purpose is the most important.
Through a process of philosophical reasoning,
it can be deduced that the single, most fundamental purpose of life is
Survival. This is self-evident and it can
be proven by logic, by common sense, and by empirical observation. This
proof is given in Chapter 1 of the Manual, which is provided with the Basic
Membership.
If the most fundamental purpose of life is
Survival, then by extension, each entity necessarily strives to survive
in the present, the proximate and more distant future, and ultimately,
strives to survive indefinitely. Thus, the ultimate expression of the most
fundamental purpose of life would have to be the goal of Infinite
Survival.
When the idea of Infinite
Survival is employed as an ultimate goal, and when, in that pursuit,
Scientific Empiricism is used as an epistemology
or methodology for determining relevant truths, and when those have their
meaning in each Individual Person, as the
primary ontological entity, then a new system of philosophy is defined
- one which orients the self toward the highest expression of the most
basic instinct and does so within the scientific paradigm.
The need for a new philosophy arises because
the traditional systems are (using our two criteria for Wisdom) no longer
sufficiently Accurate in explaining the world as we now know it nor are
they sufficiently Useful in adapting to our current situation and taking
advantage of the new human potentials that are available.
Individual existence can be seen as concentric
realms that emanate from each individual, first as a Biological entity
and then in the proximate to more remote realms of existence - i.e., Psychology,
Sociology, Ecology, Cosmology. This is represented in the diagram below.
Accordingly, a Practicum or series of applications
that are relevant to the goal can be defined for each of these realms.
In a very condensed exposition, that is the
essence of the general philosophy within which we will pursue life-extension
science. And in the following sectors, a brief over-view of the applications
of this system of thought will be provided in relationship to the 5 realms
of existence.
